A Watercolor floriography

The Birth Month Flower Collection

A few months ago, I was commissioned to paint a floral arrangement of a family’s birth flowers. It was an anniversary gift for a friend of mine from her very thoughtful husband. I was thrilled to do something so special and personal for her. At first, I didn’t even know what all of the birth month flowers were, so I set off on some research.

I learned that each month has two flowers, and that each flower has special symbolism. Throughout history, particularly during the Victorian era, it was common to use flowers to convey covert messages.

Floriography – The symbolic language of flowers

Once the painting was done, it sparked a new idea in my mind. I decided to paint each month’s flowers and release a new set of note cards each month.

As I began to share these cards on my social media feed and in the community, I had a couple of friends encourage me to create a calendar. This was a major undertaking, as I wanted to find a publishing platform where I could print a quality product at an affordable rate. I asked around to some other artists, and finally settled on MagCloud. I printed it as a magazine, got my first shipment, and punched a hole for hanging. You can see samples of my 2026 calendar A Year in Petals: A Watercolor Floriography on the MagCloud website. I included the painting alongside a description of the traditional meanings of each flower.

You can purchase directly from MagCloud. However, you’ll have to make your own hole for hanging. Alternatively, you can buy them at Sky Gallery in Tulsa. If you come see me at an in-person event, I will have the calendars available for sale. I will also be selling the original paintings, prints, and cards. Watch my socials for my fall events, or you can reach out to me through the contact form below.
